“Farewell to Ancient Evenings” is intended as a tribute to the work of Artemisia Gentileschi, the first female member of the Accademia di Arte del Disegno in Florence who also had an international clientele. She was virtually written out of art history, many of her works being attributed to Caravaggio. She was rediscovered in the mid 20th century.
The drawings for the choreographic structures and thence the floor design were grounded on the structures in a group of her paintings. The Sound layer was developed using layering techniques developed by Anthony Mawson and sound sources selected by Ursula Mawson-Raffalt. The movement structures are grounded in “The Focus Point Technique” developed over many years by Ursula Mawson-Raffalt and the presentation frame in methods also developed over many years by Anthony J F Mawson. It was presented in 1999 in Ballhaus Naunynstrasse with support from Ballhaus and Kunstamt Kreuzberg.
